Aimee has informed us of a new still of January in X-Men, check it out!
You know them as Mad Men actress January Jones (who also captivated opposite Liam Neeson in Unknown) and the infamous Mr. Kevin Bacon. Prepare to witness their big screen transformations into Emma Frost, The White Queen, a sultry psychic with a wardrobe of white, and Sebastian Shaw, The Black King, member of a secret society known as The Hellfire Club, made up of powerful mutants bent on world domination. Shaw can absorb kinetic energy expended upon him and transform it into raw strength he can in turn unleash upon others. Of course the royal code names here are the ones generally used in the comics.
The exclusive pic of the pair appeared in Empire Online and you can click the link to get the full story. The photo is set in The Hellfire Club’s “snazzy secret lair, [and] it’s yet another indicator that Matthew Vaughn’s 60s-set prequel will have a visual flair that sets it apart from the previous X-movies.”
X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
At this point, we’ve seen quite a bit of the “X-Men: First Class” cast in various forms, whether it’s in-costume teases or via director Matthew Vaughn himself.
When MTV News caught up with January Jones recently during the press day for her upcoming thriller, “Unknown,” we brought up the much-discussed group photo that leaked online in order to ask her about Emma Frost’s costumes, and how much time she may or may not spend in that little, white, two-piece number everyone’s talking about.
“I’m in that a lot,” Jones said of the “sparkly bikini-top thing” seen in the leaked cast photo. “I have a lot of very interesting costumes in that movie. So I’m in that one a lot.”
“That one has a cape sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. I have a lot of boots. I have a lot of leather. A lot of sparkly stuff. A lot of big hair,” she explained, adding that her wardrobe will likely please Frost fans everywhere.
But which outfit is her favorite?
“I really like [the one in the leaked photo] because I really like the cape. It was really great,” she said. “I didn’t get to wear the cape as much as I wanted to because the CGI when I turn into diamonds was difficult. But, there’s nothing like a cape that makes you feel really tough. There’s something [about having something] following behind you.”
The trailer for X-Men: First Class will be released on Thursday (February 10)!

Actress January Jones is no stranger to playing ice queens, having portrayed the cold Betty Draper on Mad Men for four seasons now. But this summer, Jones will portray her most chilling role yet as Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class.
Also known as The Hellfire Club’s White Queen, Emma Frost is a sexy, white-clad telepath who could get anything she wanted — money, power, prestige. She rose through the ranks of the Hellfire Club and opened her own school to train mutants and becoming an enemy of Professor Charles Xavier’s gifted students.
Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Layer Cake) directs X-Men: First Class, which is set against the backdrop of the early 1960s and chronicles how then-friends Professor X and Magneto, allied by a dream of attaining justice for their fellow mutants, formed the X-Men and first take on the Hellfire Club, led by Sebastian Shaw.
Hot on the heels of 20th Century Fox’s release of the first image of the cast, IGN had the chance to chat exclusively with Jones about portraying Emma Frost in the prequel/franchise reboot. Here’s what she had to say:
IGN: What was your reaction to being offered a role in a X-Men film, and particularly this character?
January Jones: I was very excited to do something so different and so iconic and be a part of a franchise like that. But also there was a huge weight of responsibility, too, to portray that character. There are so many fans of the comics and the movies that — inevitably, I’m going to disappoint someone, but I just wanted to really do my research and still have fun with it. It’s been a blast so far. I just hope all the fans enjoy it as much as we have.
Here is our first look at our new X-Men! Starring January Jones as Emma Frost, James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Rose Byrne as Dr. Moira MacTaggert (to name a few). Miss Jones looks super foxy as the ice queen!
In related news, MSN has posted an interview with Michael Fassbender on playing Magneto in the June 3 release. Read that interview here!
Mad Men’s prim Betty Draper takes on dangerous curves and expectations as Emma Frost: ‘I’m sure,’ she tells our Rebecca Keegan, ‘I will still disappoint someone.’
When January Jones was initially cast as mutant telepath Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class, she was eager to for the chance to break out of the retro 1960s world of Betty Draper, her character on Mad Men. Imagine the actress’ surprise when she learned that prim Betty and the vixen Emma could be partners in time.
“When I heard that this installment of X-Men was gonna take place in the ’60s I was like, ‘Oh my God, you must be kidding me!’” Jones said. “But I read the script and familiarized myself with the character of Emma Frost. She’s so, so far from Betty and from Mad Men, and it takes place in that time but it doesn’t feel like a period movie.”
A Kennedy-era prequel to the three previous X-Men films, X-Men: First Class finds Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and the man who will become known as Magneto (Michael Fassbender) discovering their powers for the first time. The plan is to present them as onetime friends who are pulled down very different paths by life experience and their own worldviews. Some members of the creative team have said that the public-life trajectories of two 1960s icons — the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X — have informed the story arc. Emma Frost, meanwhile, is a member of the villainous Hellfire Club, and she possesses the mutant power to morph into a diamond form.
